Chauffeurs Can Strike From 1 September

The drivers of Ola and Uber, which provide app-based car services, have threatened a strike in Delhi-NCR from 1 September. Cab drivers have threatened to go on strike due to their many demands such as an increase in fares and expansion of loan repair moratorium. Kamaljit Singh Gill, president of Delhi’s Sarvodaya Drivers Association, said that if the government fails to solve our problems, then about 2 lakh drivers working with cab aggregators will join the strike.

According to a leaflet circulated by the cab drivers, by December 31, there has been a demand to increase loan moratorium, increase in commission by cab aggregators and withdrawal of e-challan issued against speeding.

The strike by the drivers of the cab aggregators may cause a large number of commuters trouble as metro train services are yet to start and buses are running at low capacity amid the Kovid-19 epidemic. There is no response from Ola or Uber.Gill said that our condition had worsened since the lockdown. Most people are still working from home, due to which the number of customers has come down to only 10%. He said that the drivers are struggling a lot to meet the daily target.
