What is Central Vista..?

Under the Narendra Modi government’s ambitious project Central Vista, the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA) can be relocated elsewhere from its present location. Sources gave this information on Wednesday.

The IGNCA, built-in remembrance of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, can be moved near Jamnagar House. There are about 15 acres of land on which there is currently a temporary settlement. As per the proposed plan, nine other buildings including Udyog Bhavan, Nirman Bhawan, Shastri Bhavan, Vice President’s residence can be demolished to pave the way for construction of a common Central Secretariat for various ministries.

IGNCA is currently located on Man Singh Road. Sources said that the plan to transfer IGNCA, however, is yet to be finalized by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is the nodal ministry for this mega project.

Prime Minister’s residence and office can be shifted near South Block. With this, the Vice President’s new house may be located around North Block. Many buildings of Lutyens’ Delhi, including the Vice President’s residence, will be demolished under the Central Vista Redevelopment Project.

What will be in the plan..?

  1. In the Central Vista Redesignment Project, the new Triangular Parliament Building, Common Central Secretariat and the three-km long Rajpath are to be redeveloped near the existing Parliament House.
  2. The source associated with the project said, ‘PM’s residence and office will be very close so that the Prime Minister can run from home to office. Along with this, there are also plans to convert the North Block and South Block into two museums. The new parliament house will have a seating capacity of 900 to 1,200 MPs.

The new Parliament House will have a computer screen on every seat along with a comfortable seat. Along with this, there will be an office of Union ministers and MPs. The target is to construct the Tri-Parliament House by August 2022, when the country will be celebrating its 75th Independence Day. There is a possibility of construction of Common Central Secretariat by 2024.

In October last year, the contract for the architecture and engineering planning of the Central Vista Redesignment Project has been awarded to the architecture firm HCP Designs of Gujarat. 229.75 crore will be paid to the firm for this. The firm will be responsible for preparing the master project of the project, which includes design, cost estimation, landscape and traffic integration plan and parking facilities.

According to the media report

Among the coronavirus outbreak in India, which has caused the people to almost a cessation, one of the Narendra Modi government’s most ambitious projects — the Central Vista makeover — is steadily creeping ahead.

The administration last week announced the land-use change of over 86-acre area in Lutyens’ Delhi that currently houses some of India’s landmark buildings like the Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan, North Block and South Block, among others, to expedite completion of the Rs 20,000-crore Central Vista redevelopment project.
